OVERVIEW

FME were engaged by Roadbridge Limited to deliver full MEICA services as part of Irish Water’s Upper Liffey Valley Sewerage Scheme – a multi-phase initiative to modernise wastewater infrastructure in the region. Contract 2A involved the design and construction of a new sewer network connecting Kilbelin, Newbridge to the Osberstown Wastewater Treatment Plant in Naas, along with the delivery of three key pumping stations at Kilbelin, Littleconnell, and Newhall.

SCOPE OF WORKS

FME provided comprehensive design, installation, and commissioning services for the pumping stations, with full responsibility for MEICA delivery. Works included:

  • Full design package: Drawings, FDS, control philosophy, HAZOP meetings, lift plans, and risk assessments.
  • Supply, installation, and testing of duty/standby foul pumping systems:
    • Newhall: 2 x Xylem Submersible Pumps (492 l/s @ 13.9m, 90kW)
    • Littleconnell: 2 x Xylem Submersible Pumps (297 l/s @ 16.1m, 75kW)
    • Kilbelin: 2 x Xylem Submersible Pumps (215 l/s @ 8.5m, 23kW)
  • Installation of storm tank mixing pumps (55kW) and Flyjet pipework.
  • MCCs with telemetry integration and SCADA-compatible kiosks.
  • Penstocks (950mm – 1050mm), valves, flow meters, level instrumentation.
  • Emergency power: Standby generators (55kVA – 165kVA).
  • Safety and building services: CCTV, fire alarms, and lifting equipment.

Commissioning, staff training, and 12-month operational support.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

The Upper Liffey Valley 2A project was delivered successfully and to the highest standards, enhancing wastewater resilience and capacity for Irish Water’s Upper Liffey catchment. The new pumping stations offer improved energy efficiency, reliability, and operational monitoring.
