OVERVIEW

The main contractor on this element of the larger LWW project, AG Wilson Civil Engineering, were engaged by the client to segregate and optimise the wastewater network in the areas around Carrickfergus, Greenisland and Seahill.

Part of these works involved the installation of new CSO chambers c/w new CSO screens and also the installation of new CSO screens in pre existing CSO chambers and pre existing Wastewater Pump Stations.

The Works involved design, supply and installation of a number of these CSO Screens, both static screens (Peak Screens & Letterbox Screens) and Motorised Screens (Mecmex), in conjunction with our supply partner Eliquo Hydrok UK.

The Works also involved installation of Level controls, Control panels and Kiosks, to control the motorised screens and associated telemetry integration.

WHAT IS A CSO SCREEN

During times of rainfall the sewerage systems within our networks become overwhelmed with combined sewage and rain water. In order to prevent the flooding of these sewers, overflow weirs allow discharge at strategic points within the system into the water course. These receiving waters are protected through the installation of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Screens. These screens are designed to prevent sewage debris from passing over the weir, retaining it within the sewer.

SCOPE OF WORK

MEICA Designer / MEICA Contractor for Replacement of existing and installation of new, CSO screens, in both new/existing CSO chambers and Wastewater Pumping Stations following network optimisation works by AG Wilson, as part of the Living with Water Project.

SCOPE OF SUPPLY

The works entailed design, supply, installation and commissioning of the following key components:

  • New Static Letterbox Screens (Typically 0 – 25 l /sec Overflow rates)
  • New Static Peak Screens (Typically (0-100 l / sec Overflow rates)
  • New Mecmex Motorised Screens (Typically >100 l /sec Overflow rates)
  • EX-Rated 3 Phase Motors
  • New Siemens Ultrasonic Level Controls
  • New Control Panels c/w new NIE 3 phase power supplies.
  • Talas Telemetry Outstations and all associated Telemetry integration of new Equipment.
