FME Apprentice Josh Porter Achieves Runner-Up Success at SkillBuild NI Regional Competition

FME is delighted to congratulate our apprentice, Josh Porter, on his outstanding performance at the 2026 SkillBuild NI Regional Competition, held at Southern Regional College‘s Greenbank Campus in Newry.

The annual competition, organised by CITB NI in partnership with Southern Regional College, brings together some of Northern Ireland’s most talented construction apprentices and trainees to compete across a range of specialist trade categories. The event is designed to test participants’ technical ability, craftsmanship, and problem-solving skills under pressure while showcasing the high standards being achieved across the construction industry. More than 100 apprentices from across Northern Ireland took part in this year’s competition across 12 construction trades.

Representing FME, Josh demonstrated exceptional skill, commitment, and professionalism throughout the competition, earning a runner-up position in his category against strong competition from apprentices across the region.

Competing at this level requires dedication, technical expertise, and the ability to perform under challenging conditions and strict time constraints. Josh’s achievement reflects not only his individual talent and hard work but also the importance of apprenticeship programmes in developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Josh was also featured on UTV Life during the competition, appearing as part of the event’s media coverage while the tournament was taking place. Check out the video below:
